Assessment of Existing ERP Solution

As manufacturing companies grow and expand their business functions, they often find that their existing solutions no longer meet their needs.  Some key growth drivers that may trigger the need to assess an existing ERP solution are:

  • The addition of functionality to the business, such as in-sourcing customer service and support
  • The purchase and management of a fleet of trucks
  • The realization that there is a need for enhanced management reporting
  • The launch of a new product that requires niche functionality (e.g., Quality Control to meet FDA regulatory requirements)

Our professionals have many years of experience working with companies to assess their IT needs as they grow and to determine whether or not their existing ERP solution can grow with them.  Our approach to an assessment may include an assessment of only the existing ERP solution or could include a broader, more comprehensive assessment across a variety of ERP solutions, including the existing ERP solution.

Assess only the existing ERP solution

Our approach to assessing only the existing ERP solution may include the following key activities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of client's ERP business and technical needs
  • Consider changes to processes and work with client to define the new processes
  • Assess the current, implemented functionality of the existing ERP solution
  • Assess the ability of the current software to support future, required functionality
  • Identify gaps and potential workarounds
  • Determine high-level cost estimates to implement enhancements to existing ERP solution
  • Summarize, evaluate, and document pros and cons of using existing ERP solution to meet future needs
  • Present findings to client management team
Assess the existing ERP solution along with other potential ERP solutions

Our approach to this effort would include the completion of a more comprehensive ERP System Selection effort and include the existing ERP solution as one of the candidate solutions along with other identified potential ERP solutions.  This will cause the existing ERP solution to be evaluated against other solutions to determine whether it can stand up to the defined future needs.
