One of the primary areas of focus with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) is promotion and adoption of electronic health records (EHRs). An EHR provides electronic medical and behavioral health information about an individual patient that is used to plan, coordinate and document health care services. Providers must demonstrate that they meet "meaningful use" criteria in order to benefit from stimulus incentives.  Meaningful use will involve implementation of e-prescribing, interoperability and exchange of health information, quality and outcomes reporting.
